Caelyn Pfister has known since growing up in Erie, Pennsylvania, that she wanted to work in healthcare. That yearning grew at Fairview High School and during visits with her sister, Cassidy, then a student and now a graduate of Ohio Northern University.
“ONU felt like a home away from home. I made friends, and when I found out ONU has a great nursing program, that was it. I also was offered scholarships, so it was an amazing opportunity financially, as well.”
Nursing, she added, was the perfect fit because she’s a people person who excels at science.
Caelyn graduated in May 2026 with a dual degree in nursing and in pharmaceutical healthcare business with a management concentration. She appreciated her ONU professors.
“I would not be where I am without them. The nursing program has the best, and they're always willing to help in and out of the classroom. The business college is also welcoming; my professors always made sure I understand concepts that might be unfamiliar to me.”
Caelyn worked as a paid emergency department nurse intern at MetroHealth in Cleveland, where she “gained valuable real-world experience.”
She valued being involved in campus clubs and organizations, including the National Students Nurses Association and Zeta Tau Alpha.
One day, she’d like to work as a life-flight nurse or become a nurse practitioner, specializing in emergency medicine, intensive care, or wound care.
“I’m so glad I chose ONU. I will always be grateful for what I’ve learned and experienced there.”
